Philly Cheesesteak

This should be my last post without a stove, my dorm room next year has a stove so there will definitely be more variety in my recipes. For now however, I will be making Philly Cheesesteaks on my griddle!

What you will need:

  • 12 ounces of chipped steakĀ (thin sliced eye of round, rib eye, or sirloin tip roast)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 medium onions
  • salt and pepper
  • Cheese whiz or provolone cheese (I like provolone)
  • A long roll
  • Griddle or frying pan
  • Spatula
Before cooking, freeze the meat to allow you to slice the meat as thinly as possible. Also chop the onions as thinly as possible, separating rings also.
Next, add the two tablespoons of oil to the surface of the griddle or a frying pan. After the oil has heated, lower the heat to medium and drop your onion slices in and cook until the begin to look transparent.
Then, add steak and cook for three minutes or until lightly brown. add slat and pepper to taste.
Push the mixture to one side and lay cheese on top of mixture to melt if sliced cheese. Cheese whiz has to be heated in a bowl in the microwave or just add it on your bread.
After slicing your bread sideways, take a spatula and scoop the mixture onto the bread. And there you have your own philly cheesesteak!

At Home Ice Cream (No Ice Cream Maker Required!)

Today the weather was beautiful, so I was in the mood for a summer treat. I found this recipe on food.com and had to do it! I have used this recipe previously in a high school science class so it brought back memories! This is a great project for kids on a hot summer day or for every day!

You will need:

  • 1/2 cup half and half
  • 1 tbs sugar
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla
  • 1 sandwhich ziplock bag
  • 1 gallon ziplock bag
  • 3 cups of crushed ice
  • 3 cups of rock salt
  • (if you want a chocolate or strawberry flavor, use syrup)
First, place the half-and-half, sugar, vanilla, and any flavored syrup into the first ziplock bag. Make sure this is sealed tightly.
Next, place the ice and rock salt in the larger bag, placing the small bag inside this bag. Also make sure this bag is sealed tightly.
Shake the bag for ten to fifteen minutes, letting the ice cream harden.
Finally, take out the smaller bag and enjoy your homemade ice cream!

I made these apple smilies at home and I loved them! Also great for kids, that’s the section i got this recipe from Family.com

What you will need is:

  • An apple
  • Smooth peanut butter
  • Mini marshmallows
The serving size for these ingredients is one person.
First cut the apple into eights cutting the seeds of of the end. Use a corer if you want, but I don’t have a corer.
Next spread the peanut butter over the apples on one side of each apple slice.
Then place the mini marshmallows in a line along the apple slice. Repeat for four apple slices.
Finally, put another apple slice on top of the mini marshmallows.
Now you have apple smilies!
